Aviunna in 3 words:  Loving, Openminded and Outgoing

Aviunna McCorkle is a passionate and driven student whose leadership and community spirit are evident in all she does. She is involved in BETA Club, NAACP, Top Teens of America, Girl Scouts, and competitive cheer, balancing academics, service, and athletics with determination and energy.

Her career goals reflect her compassion and desire to help others. Aviunna hopes to work with children through early childhood education and later pursue a career as a medical assistant after completing her education and earning a master’s degree. She also has a strong commitment to her community and dreams of being a leader in efforts to reduce youth violence, believing that every child deserves opportunities without fear.

Aviunna’s biggest inspiration is her mother, who she describes as her backbone, best friend, and biggest motivator. Her mom’s strength, confidence, and perseverance—especially as the first college graduate in their family—push Aviunna to strive for more and believe in herself. She also credits Mr. Wells, her 7th grade English teacher, as one of her most influential mentors. His encouragement and life lessons helped her develop a love for English and taught her resilience during times she wanted to give up.

After high school, Aviunna plans to attend college full time while also working part time. She describes herself as loving, openminded, and outgoing. She values the Jackson community’s ability to come together in times of tragedy, for community events, and in support of Black-owned businesses. She also admires how people in Jackson use their voices to speak up for those who are afraid.

In her community role, Aviunna sees herself as a front-of-the-pack leader, idea creator, and negotiator. She brings energy, vision, and determination to everything she does and hopes to use those strengths to make a lasting difference in her community.

“I think Jackson’s biggest strength is how the community comes together, whether it’s in times of tragedy, supporting Black businesses, or hosting events that unite people.”
